Ed Dept. Pressures Virginia Schools on Trans Rules

The U.S. Education Department warned five Northern Virginia school districts they could lose millions in federal funding for letting transgender students use bathrooms matching their gender identity. Officials say the policies violate new Title IX guidance under President Trump’s second term. The schools argue they’re bound by a 4th Circuit court precedent that protects trans students’ rights. Now the districts face tighter federal oversight and risk having funds cut if they refuse to comply.

Ex-Obama Aide: Democrats Lack Clear Identity

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett said Democrats can’t counter Trump because voters don’t know what the party really stands for. Speaking on a podcast, he argued that primaries will show whether Democrats can define their values beyond just opposing Trump. Lovett admitted Biden’s age and poor communication worsened the problem, leaving voters with doubts about party leadership. He warned that without a clearer message, Democrats risk losing more ground to Trump’s energized base.

Most infections were in school-aged children, with 99 hospitalizations and two child deaths reported. Doctors warn the risk isn’t gone, since outbreaks elsewhere could bring the virus back. Vaccination remains the strongest protection, with experts urging two doses of the MMR shot to guard against the highly contagious illness.

Study Finds Volunteering Slows Brain Decline

A new study shows older adults who volunteer two to four hours a week slow brain aging by 15% to 20%. Researchers tracked more than 31,000 Americans over two decades and found both formal and informal helping—like food banks or assisting neighbors—brought lasting cognitive benefits. Staying engaged cut loneliness, boosted social ties, and reduced stress. Experts say the key is consistency: those who stopped helping saw faster decline, while steady helpers stayed sharper longer.
